Times Two

New Year's Eve Day--

Gathering with the Aunts, Uncles, and

COUSINS!

Also known as Christmas times two!

Amplified Potty Jokes to the MAX!!!!

"That is so poopy!"

"What about poopy pants?"

"Poopy Diapers!"

Today it is stand-up poopy potty jokes--

Tomorrow, we try not to think about!

Time for a frenzy of presents!

This event was more like a Tsunami of paper, tape, and cheap bows!

Whoa!
Who is that masked young man?

Polly Pocket fun!

A Dragon spitting-- Dragon?

Abbie sewing.

The usual game associated with Christmas and big gift giving.

So many new toys!

"Hey! Check out this BOX!"

"WooHoo! This is fun!"

One last dress up for Nai Nai in the
fairy princess outfits.

What a big HIT!

Merry Christmas Afternoon

With no social engagements planned, everyone pretty much stayed in jammie-like attire for the day.

The girls were excited to wear thier new Hello Kitty house coats.

Gabrielle trying on some new bracelets.

The girls using their new binioculars to view song birds in the yard.

They worked-up a mighty thirst!
Nothing like a cool drink of water from their new "Fab Snaps Water bottles!"

On to Engineering feats of
building a marble maze.

Wim offering a few suggstions.

Gabrielle wisely choosing to not get involved.

They have it covered!

Success!!

Look at those marbles roll!

Merry Christmas Morning!

As expected, Christmas morning was a somewhat
confused frenzy of presents, chocolate, presents, candy,

Did I mention presents and chocolate?

Clara Rose was most ecstatic to find a baby rudolph waiting for her!

Josie enjoyed all the fun bath items in her stocking.

Our little performer with a microphone.

Nothing says "Yippee! It is Christmas like amplified potty jokes!"

Fun slipper socks!

It was a tornado of wrapping paper, tape, and cheap bows.

"More coffee please."

The big kids roused-- Xavier doesn't care one way or the other about pictures when he gets up.

You'll have to wait for the Christmas afternoon set to see Gabrielle.

A desk and chair--

leather jacket.
"The desk and chair are for what? Homework? For Christmas?! YUCK!"

Finally, a leapfrog toy they actually like!

"A gaming chair! Now this is more like it!"

Christmas Eve

I Know. . . these are a little late coming, but hey, we've been busy!

Josie and Clara Rose dressed for Church Christmas Eve.

After church, after dinner--

Sprinkling reindeer food in the front yard.

A little glimpse at the magic that awaits!

Seriously!
The girls slept better (and longer into the morning)
than we did!

Racism and Jon Huntsman: Chinese Sleeper Agent?

Racism against Chinese Americans and families who adopt from China appears to be alive and well within political debates.

Racism is alive and well all around us. Anyone who thinks differently is living in a bubble.

Our family recently addressed a racist incident faced by a member of our household. It has been requested that we don't go into details-- no phyical altercations-- just folks requesting privacy.

The Jon Huntsman video link is below.  Basically, he is portrayed as not really being an American because he lived in China for a few years, speaks fluent Mandarin, and has a daughter adopted from China and another daughter adopted from India.

Jon Huntsman: Chinese Sleeper Agent? - Politics - The Atlantic Wire

I am not sure which is worse—the first link about Huntsman or his response.  It plays to much on the pitiful orphan being saved by the great Western family mentality—not to mention publicly delivering a lot of very personal information about each of his daughters.  Yuck!

I am soooo not looking forward to the upcoming election year. I think it is going to be super messy filled with more immaturity than we usually are subject.

Huntsman Response to Video
Speaking before the College Convention, Huntsman was asked about the spot, which features him in Chairman Mao garb, and questions whether the former U.S. Ambassador to China values "American values, or Chinese" and implies that he would be weak on China.

"I saw just parts of it yesterday," he said. "First of all, it is just stupid. Second of all, yeah, I lived overseas four times ... I speak Chinese, of course I do. If someone wants to poke fun of me for speaking Chinese, that's okay. The thing I object to is bringing forward pictures and videos of my adopted daughters and suggesting that there is some sinister motive there. I have a daughter from China who was abandoned at two months of age and left in a vegetable market, picked up by the police and sent to an orphanage."
"I have a second daughter who was born in India in a very rural village ... and left for dead the day she was born," he added. "And luckily she was picked up before the animals got her, and she was sent to an orphanage for her safety, was raised and now she is in my family. So I have two little girls who are a daily reminder that there are a lot of kids in this world who don't have the breaks that you do and face a very uncertain future ... and now these two girls are on the presidential campaign trail. I say, how cool is that?"

Two Years Today

Today is the two year anniversary day for Clara Rose's Adoption. This year is also percieved to be even more important because Clara Rose was not quite two when we adopted her so this anniversary marks the time when Clara Rose has been part of our family longer than she has lived anywhere else.

In adoption, this is suppose to be a milestone of sorts, although, I am not sure why exactly.

We love her beyond words and are so happy to have her in our family.

As happy as we are and as happy as she is 'today,' we cannot forget how heartbroken she was on this day two years ago when she left her foster family and how heartbroken she was for the following months.

Nor can we forget how heartbroken her family was when she left their family.

Nor will we forget that our families are connected to each other through our love for this little girl.

Later today, we will sit with Clara Rose and look through her adoption storybook. There are the expected pictures of the adoption trip and her first year living with our family-- becoming part of this new family and making it her family.

The book begins with pictures of us waiting to adopt her as well as pictures of her with her foster family before we adopted her and there are a few blank pages to represent that there is much to her early life we simply do not know.

At this young age, Clara Rose enjoys looking through this book and hearing the stories. I wonder what feelings about this book and the pictures it contains are yet to come.

We love you Clara Rose!
