| The Medical Exam was much more involved this time around than it was when we adopted Josie. This is due to some new rules and largely an oversight in the new rules in which the CDC requires all immigrants to have certain vaccinations before coming to the USA. Under the former international adoption law, adoptees were exempt from this requirement. The new international adoption law forgot to include an exemption for adoptees. So, dear little Clara Rose who in the past few days, has been ripped away from all that she has ever known-- which was a loving foster family got to get FIVE shots yesterday for things like influenza (non H1N1) , pnemonia, chicken pox, and we're not sure about the other shots. Honestly? A flu shot and Pnemonia? I find this requirement absolutely ridiculous especially considering that our country is experiencing outbreaks of the measles because some parents are choosing to not getting their children vaccinated. Are these shots I would get for Clara Rose? Absolutely. But, I would prefer to get them from OUR pediatrician after we arrive home. We will still have titers run on Clara Rose to determine if the vaccinations are truly sufficient and I can tell you, when we did this for Josie, not all of the vaccinations she was listed to have registered strong enough to count. If this is the case with Clara Rose, she will have to get these same shots again because as her parents we want her to be healthy. Getting off of my soapbox. We did enjoy a nice walk yesterday around the park and garden with the girls. Today we are going to a safari park with our travel group.. |
